WINDSOR, ONTARIO – The Stellantis Windsor Assembly plant will temporarily shut down production as a result of a global shortage of semiconductors, according to reports.

The hiatus will start on Monday and last three weeks.

"We are working closely with our global supply chain network to manage the manufacturing impact caused by the global microchip shortage and will continue to make production adjustments as necessary," said LouAnn Gosselin, head of communications for Stellantis in Canada.

With the closure of the automotive factory, some 4,700 employees are temporarily laid off.
