PHETCHABURI, THAILAND – More than 800 new employees at the Cal-Comp Electronics factory here have tested positive for Covid-19, forcing a voluntary two-week shutdown, according to reports. This brings total confirmed cases in the region to nearly 1,700.

The firm’s 3,300 staff includes 2,000 who are still awaiting Covid-19 test results.

Management said it would ensure quarantined workers are well taken care of during the outbreak, including normal wages.

Some 3,600 migrant workers living onsite and in neighboring districts are also in quarantine, and the factory has been converted into kitchens to provide three meals daily to all quarantined staff. A second building on site has been converted into a field hospital.
