JOHOR, MALAYSIA -- An electronics plant owned by ATA Industrial is reportedly under investigation for allegedly subjecting workers to excessive overtime demands.
The Sunday Mirror is reporting one of the company's Malaysia plant was raided in May and is being scrutinized by custom officials in multiple countries after reports that the company pays workers as little as GPB8 ($11.15) a day, and monthly overtime stretches to 186 hours. Other complaints centered on crowded workplace and living conditions.
An ATA spokesperson denied the claims, adding the EMS company complies with Malaysia’s standards and policies in relation to worker welfare. The company posted several video clips of the company’s worker accommodations in a number of its facilities on Twitter.
The US Border Patrol has reportedly opened an investigation into the claims.
