BANNOCKBURN, IL — Total North American EMS shipments in May were up 9.4% year-over-year and 0.6% sequentially, according to IPC.
EMS orders for the month increased 7% compared to May 2021 and decreased 6.8% compared to the prior month.
The book-to-bill ratio in May was 1.35, down slightly from 1.36 in April. A ratio of more than one suggests current demand is ahead of supply, which is a positive indicator for sales growth over the next three to twelve months.
“Recent results for the EMS industry continue to suggest strained supply chains. Orders have grown 11.2%, outpacing shipment growth of 7%,” said Shawn DuBravac, IPC’s chief economist. “The book-to-bill has moderated from last year's highs but remains elevated as businesses continue to work on key components.”
