BANNOCKBURN, IL — North American electronics manufacturing services (EMS) shipments in June fell 7.6% versus a year ago, but climbed 9.6% over the previous month, IPC announced today.

EMS bookings fell 13.9% year-over-year and increased 12% sequentially.

The book-to-bill ratio, calculated by dividing the value of orders booked over the past three months by the value of sales billed during the same period, rose 30 basis points to 1.39. A ratio of more than 1.0 suggests that current demand is ahead of supply, which is a positive indicator for sales growth over the next three to 12 months.

“The headlines seem to be focused on recession, but the most recent results from IPC's North American EMS statistical program tell a different story,” said Shawn DuBravac, chief economist, IPC. “Yes, order flow is slowing, but orders remain strong. Orders through the first six months of 2022 are down 6.4% compared to a historically strong 2021. But orders are up 8.4% compared to the first six months of 2019. Orders continue to outpace shipments, suggesting supply chains are still tight.”
