BANNOCKBURN, IL — IPC announced that North American Printed Circuit Board shipments in September 2022 were up 14.6% compared to the same month last year. Compared to August, September shipments rose 17.9%. The book-to-bill ratio stands at 1.12.
PCB year-to-date bookings in September were down 2.6% compared to last year. However, bookings in September increased 52% from the previous month.
“The North American PCB market experienced strong growth in booking and shipments in the last month -- with shipments recording the second highest levels in recent history -- a sign that supply chain dynamics continue to improve,” said Shawn DuBravac, IPC’s chief economist.
The book-to-bill ratios are calculated by dividing the value of orders booked over the past three months by the value of sales billed during the same period from companies in IPC’s survey sample. A ratio of more than 1.00 suggests that current demand is ahead of supply, which is a positive indicator for sales growth over the next three to twelve months. A ratio of less than 1.00 indicates the reverse.
