BENGALURU — Foxconn's founder-director Terry Gou warned China that the government's zero-COVID stance would threaten the position China's economy in the global supply chain, which played a major role in convincing the country's leadership to reopen the economy and move away from its zero-tolerance COVID-19 policy, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Gou's office said in a statement that it "sternly denies" the facts in the report while Foxconn declined to comment, while China's State Council Information Office could not be immediately reached by Reuters for comment.

Foxconn is the biggest assembler of iPhones, and its Zhengzhou, China plant had been grappling with strict COVID restrictions that led to a month-long protest by workers of factory conditions, triggering an 11.4% year-on-year drop in November revenue.
