TORONTO – Contract manufacturer Celestica is laying off 44 workers at its Silicon Valley facilities.
The Silicon Valley Business Journal reported that the company notified workers on Jan. 16 that it intends to begin laying off employees on March 20, according to a pair of letters that Mansi Shukla, a human resources manager with Celestica, sent to state employment officials last month. None of Celestica's facilities will be closed, but the job cuts will be permanent, the letters said.
As part of its workforce reductions, Celestica is letting go 27 workers based at one of its facilities in Fremont, CA, 13 who work in another facility in Fremont and four who work in San Jose, CA. The layoffs include 16 machinists, six machine operators and four production operators, according to the numbers sent to the California Employment Development Department.
