CHENNAI, INDIA – Foxconn and Pegatron are among the companies that have suspended their manufacturing operations in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu due to cyclonic conditions.
Heavy rains lashed the city of Chennai, a major electronics and manufacturing hub, with floodwater sweeping away cars and shutting down its airport as Cyclone Michaung headed down the coast to the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh.
Foxconn, which employs about 35,000 people at its Tamil Nadu iPhone factory, has yet to decide whether to resume production on Tuesday, sources told Reuters.
This is the second time in recent months that Pegatron has been forced to shut its factory, having temporarily halted assembly of iPhones after a fire in September.
