WASHINGTON – Global semiconductor sales reached $59 billion in May, a 27% year-over-year increase, according to data released today by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). Sales were up 3.5% month-over-month from April’s total of $57 billion.
The figures reflect a sustained recovery and strong demand across global markets. SIA president and CEO John Neuffer attributed the continued growth to robust purchasing in the Americas and Asia Pacific regions.
“Global semiconductor sales remained strong in May, edging above the previous month’s total and remaining well ahead of sales from the same month last year,” Neuffer said.
Regionally, year-over-year sales surged 45.2% in the Americas, 30.5% in Asia Pacific/all other and 20.5% in China. Modest gains were also recorded in Japan (4.5%) and Europe (4.1%). Month-over-month growth was led by Asia Pacific/all other (6%), followed by China (5.4%), Europe (4%), Americas (0.5%), and Japan (0.2%).
