Intel Eyeing SE Asia for Packaging Plant

HANOI -- Is Intel headed for India?
The world's leading chipmaker is reportedly considering locating a major chip packaging factory in India or Vietnam.
Intel chief executive Paul Otellini reportedly said Vietnam and other countries were possible locations for the facility. The estimated price tag for the plant: $400 million.
Government officials from India and Vietnam have indicated that their nations are in the running. Vietnam has in its corner the fastest-growing PC market in Southeast Asia. Computer ownership has quadrupled in five years, to 1.3 million this year.
On Wednesday, an Intel spokeswoman said the company is still considering its options, the San Jose Mercury reported today.
