SAN JOSE, CA – Monthly worldwide semiconductor sales rose 1% sequentially to $20.3 billion in March, 3.2% higher than the $19.7 billion reported in March 2006, SIA reported today.

First-quarter global chip sales were $61 billion, an increase of 3.2% year-over-year. Sales fell 6.5% in the quarter versus last year.

The SIA noted that price pressures among DRAMs, DSPs and NAND flash tempered growth, despite higher unit shipments for these products. DRAM sales declined by more than 8% from the last quarter of 2006, even as units increased more than 16%; average sales prices dipped close to 20% during the same period. Microprocessor revenues declined nearly 13% from the prior quarter.
