BRUSSELS – After eight years of study, the European Commission has cleared Tetrabromobisphenol A for use without restriction in the EU. This marks the end of an official risk assessment of TBBPA, a brominated flame retardant used in more than 70% of PCBs.

The EU Risk Assessment evaluated TBBPA for potential risks to human health and the environment. The commission concluded no risk was identified for the reactive use of TBBPA such as in epoxy resins used in printed circuit boards.

DANBURY, CT -- Praxair Inc. is raising prices for nitrogen and other gases by 10 to 20% for customers in the US, effective July 1, or as contracts permit.

The company said it would raise prices 10% to 20% for nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, and other gases, and would hike monthly fees up to 15%.

Praxair is a leading supplier of nitrogen in the US.

"These actions are being implemented in response to rapidly escalating energy, fuel, and other operational costs, current supply/demand imbalances, and increases in the cost of capital goods to support customer product supply," the company said in a release.

NEENAH, WI – Plexus Corp. yesterday reaffirmed its guidance for its fiscal third quarter of $430 million to 450 million in revenue.

The EMS firm also reaffirmed fiscal year revenue growth of 16 to 18%. It added that it would receive an additional $5 million in orders in the fourth quarter from an unnamed defense customers, with potential for $17 million more in fiscal 2009.

The company said has purchased $168 million worth of its own shares as of June 13, with at least $32 million more in buybacks planned.
