MELVILLE, NY – Electronics components distributor Nu Horizons Electronics reported first-quarter fiscal 2010 net sales of $147.8 million, down 26.2% year-over-year.
 
The net loss for the quarter was $944,000, compared to net income of $1.15 million in the first quarter of the prior year.
 
Sequentially, net sales decreased 2% year-over-year, from $150.77 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009.
 
Sequentially, the actives segment saw sales grow $4.83 million (13.2%) in Asia and $445,000 (2.5%) in Europe, offset by a $6.9 million (8%) decline in North America.
 
Gross profit for actives decreased 29.8% compared to the prior comparable period, and 9.6% sequentially. Gross profit passives dropped 44.9% year-over-year and 14.3% sequentially.
