September 2017 (Indianapolis, IN) – Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) is pleased to announce that it will conduct a webinar on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. EDT. The webinar, entitled, “The Use of Parylene as an Advanced Conformal Coating for Increased Reliability,” will be presented by SCS’ Dick Molin, Medical Market Manager, and Rakesh Kumar, Ph.D., Vice President of Technology. The webinar is now open for registration at: scswebinars.com.
Heightened demands for performance and reliability often require conformal coating solutions to provide protection from threatening environments. This is particularly true in the dynamic world of electronic devices where increased complexity on smaller and smaller components poses new challenges for design and manufacturing engineers alike. Device and component manufacturers often seek key competitive advantages through the use of conformal coatings, with the driving force to enhance one or more specific properties. Included may be electrical and barrier properties, dry film lubricity or biocompatibility.
This webinar will provide the participant an opportunity to learn more about the use of Parylene coatings and how they differentiate themselves across many markets including electronics, automotive, military, aerospace and medical device technologies. Typically applied at thicknesses that range from angstroms to tens of microns, Parylene meets unique challenges by providing a completely conformal coating that is ultra-thin, transparent and inert. Examples of applications that benefit from Parylene conformal coatings include circuit card assemblies, LEDs, downhole electronics, sensors, lab-on-a-chip devices, pacemakers, electrosurgical tools, neurostimulation devices and stents, to name only a few.
Also discussed will be recent advances in adhesion technology for substrates that have been historically more challenging for the Parylenes, including highly polished metal surfaces and polymeric substrates. The webinar will conclude with an overview of how some Parylene coatings are being incorporated as key materials in advanced micro technologies as a result of their unique array of material capabilities.
As materials and applications continue to advance, Parylene coatings are increasingly being used to enhance the reliability of innovative technologies.
Dr. Kumar leads the R&D group at SCS and manages Parylene research and development activities worldwide. His prior work experience includes technical and management positions with United Panel, Inc., Lucent Technologies, and OptronX, Inc. He has more than 25 years of extensive experience in the development of polymeric materials and their applications in the medical, electronics and semiconductors areas.
Molin’s focus includes expansion of SCS medical market activities and new medical applications for Parylene conformal coatings. He has more than 25 years of experience in product and process development, including 15 years at SCS where he actively worked with advanced materials and processes for Parylene technologies. Molin earned his Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Arizona and holds a Master of Business Administration in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix.
