Pasadena, California, USA -- William ‘Bud’ Crockett of TANAKA Denshi will present a paper titled “Introduction of Copper Alloy Bonding Wire for the High Rel Industry” at The IMAPS Wire Bonding Topical Workshop, Oct 8, 2018 at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena California.

The Workshop and Tabletop Exhibition is co-located with the IMAPS 2018 International Symposium.

Copper (Cu) bonding wire has grown in popularity and usage with the aim of reducing costs. When compared to gold, however, copper wire presents challenges in reliability and repeatable bonding characteristics in terms of chemical stability, which is required in high reliability applications. Therefore, copper wire adoption in automotive and industrial semiconductors has been limited. A new bare copper alloy wire offers competitive advantages for high reliability applications with reliability improvements of 1.5 times that of conventional bare copper wire.

In addition to increased reliability, the new bare copper alloy wire excels in all aspects of productivity, bondability, cost and electrical conductivity. Copper alloy wire is able to significantly reduce manufacturing costs while sufficiently meeting performance requirements by replacing the currently widely-used gold wire in applications requiring high reliability, including automotive electronics, industrial electronics and military high reliability applications.

TANAKA Denshi is located in Morgan Hill, California, and TANAKA will exhibit in booth #331 at the IMAPS International Symposium. TANAKA partners with TopLine, a Premier sponsor of the IMAPS Wire Bonding Topical Workshop. For more information, visit http://www.imaps.org/wirebonding/
