NANJING, CHINAKimball Electronics Group has begun production at its 132,400 sq. ft. facility in Nanjing, the company said today.

Production has been launched on a motor control product for an industrial customer, at volumes of approximately 7,000 units per week over the next three years.

"With this start of production, we have firmly reinforced our global footprint of capabilities," said Roger Chang, vice president, Asian Operations, in a statement. "Not only does our Nanjing facility offer competitive advantages to our customers around the globe, but it holds potential to benefit China's own huge domestic market with future growth."

The Nanjing facility was completed last August and operational testing and pre-production work for customer approvals has been ongoing. The facility will perform printed circuit board assembly, system subassembly and final product assembly, engineering services, and supply chain support.

The plant, which has attained ISO-9000 registration, will initially build for a group of half a dozen customers.

Nanjing, a city of more than 6.4 million people, is located near the Yangtze River and is the capital of the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu.
