EL SEGUNDO, CA – At just beyond the midyear point, all signs point to the PC market attaining the annual forecast of 11.2% growth in unit shipments, says iSuppli Corp.
Notebooks have been a key driver, but desktop PC shipments have shown signs of improvement.

Global PC shipments in the second quarter were up in the range of 10.5 to 11.5% year-over-year, says the research firm.

In the second half of the year, which historically has accounted for 53% of annual shipments, worldwide growth is expected to be 13% compared to the second half last year.

Intel’s latest financial results support the contention that PC shipments were very healthy in the second quarter; Intel saw record chipset shipments, and an increase in microprocessor sales compared to the first quarter, says iSuppli.

Hewlett-Packard is expected to retain its leadership position throughout the year, but a fascinating battle is going on between Acer and Lenovo for number three in the global PC market, the firm notes.
