TOKYO -- The restructuring is over for
Sony's electronics group,
the company confirmed today, in response to rumors of further cuts.
The electronics OEM in December announced coming layoffs of 8,000 full-time jobs and 8,000
seasonal and part-time workers.
A Sony spokesman today told Bloomberg that no further reorganization is
planned. “We announced the restructuring of the electronics business
last month. We are not planning to announce further
restructuring at this time.”
However, it remains unclear which of the company's myriad manufacturing might close, and how much -- if any -- of its production would be contracted out.
Sony's internal electronics production is estimated at more than $15 billion per year.
