KUALA LUMPUR -- Flextronics International will close its factory in Shah Alam, putting nearly 1,400 employees out of work, Reuters reported today.

Reuters cited a spokeswoman for Malaysia's Ministry of Human Resources, who reportedly was informed by the company as part of required procedures. The MHR spokeswoman said that Flextronics intends to lay off 1,382 workers from its assembly plant in Shah Alam, in suburban Kuala Lumpur.

According to the ministry, the layoffs will bring to 45,000 the number of electronics industry workers fired since the start of the year, Reuters reported.
