TAIPEI -- Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn) reported first-quarter net sales fell 7.9% year-over-year to NT$277.9 billion ($8.2 billion).

The world's largest ODM/EMS company said net income dropped 17% to NT$13.3 billion ($395 million) for the three months ended March 31.

The company claimed strong market share gains, and said it would continue efforts to expand its mechanical, optical and electrical integration.

In a statement, spokesman Edmund C.A. Ding said, ""Despite the general uncertainty and a so-called challenging environment, under the backdrop of an increase weighting in company’s consumer electronics business, the quarterly unconsolidated results were as expected and remain seasonal."
