APPLETON, WI – Surface Mount Technology Corp. is expanding its facility here, with plans to add a total of 25,000 sq. ft. during the two-phase project.
The renovation and expansion is expected to be completed in two phases during the next two years. The first phase is the renovation of 6,000 sq. ft. for SMT Engineering LLC design and product development group, expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2010. The estimated investment is $2.5 million.
The renovation is being driven by a 36% growth in revenue this year, says the firm, and will provide a larger segregated area for the product development group.
The second phase is the addition of 25,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space onto the current facility. Groundbreaking is expected to start in the first quarter of next year, and to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2010. This marks a major expansion of the company's existing facility, which is 36,000 sq. ft. according to the CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY 2009 Directory of EMS Companies.
The additional square footage is required to integrate the company’s higher-level assembly operations into its manufacturing facility, SMT says.
The contract electronics assembler serves the industrial controls, military, medical and automotive markets.
