SAN JOSE, CA -- Sanmina-SCI reported second-quarter revenue of $1.53 billion, up 27.8% from a year ago.

The GAAP net income was $10 million, up from a net loss of $38 million a year ago.

For the period ended April 3, the GAAP gross margin was 7.7%, up 30 basis points sequentially and 200 basis points year-over-year. The GAAP operating margin was 3%, up 30 basis points from the December quarter and and 410 basis points from last year.

Sanmina-SCI had first quarter revenue of $1.48 billion and net income of $59 million.

During the quarter, Sanmina saw growth in multimedia (up 14% sequentially) and communications (up 7% sequentially). Computing was down 10% sequentially on seasonality.

Sanmina-SCI guided for June quarter revenue of $1.55 billion to $1.65 billion, saying all segments would see sequential growth. The company book-to-bill ratio at quarter's end was 1.15.

The firm also said it would acquire EMS competitor BreconRidge (see related story), and expand capacity in China and India.
