BURLINGTON, VERMONT -- Manufacturing Market Insider has released its annual list of the largest EMS companies, and at the top is, of course, Hon Hai (Foxconn).

Most of the top makers have been identified and follow suit with other published rankings, including that of CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY: Flextronics, Jabil, Celestica and Sanmina-SCI round out the top five.

The rest of the top 10 did contain a surprise, however: the inclusion of Shenzhen Kaifa Technology (Kaifa) at No. 7. Most analysts do not consider Kaifa's dedicated EMS business to be extensive; it primarily acts as an ODM to the industrial and computer markets, and builds for its parent company, China Electronics Corp., a state-owned conglomerate and reportedly the largest state-owned IT company in China.

Cal-Comp was No. 6, Benchmark came in at No. 8, followed by Plexus and Universal Scientific Industrial (USI). again, MMI does not seem to distinguish between EMS and non-EMS sales in its rankings, thus USI finished higher than most analysts would place it. (USI was 23rd in CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY's rankings.

The second 10 include Venture, Elcoteq, SIIX, Zollner, Beyonics, Sumitronics, Orient Semiconductor Electronics, Kimball, AsteelFlash and Fabrinet.

Nam Tai, Wong's Electronics (WKK), 3CEMS, Creation Technologies and Videoton round out the top 25.

Absent from the Top 50 list is PC Partner, which had EMS sales of $500 million last year. OSE is not on CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY's list as its annual EMS only sales are less than $200 million, well below the $260 million threshold to make the Top 50 list. OSE generates the bulk of its revenue from component packaging operations.
