GEORGETOWN, TX -- Electronic components manufacturer AirBorn Inc. has acquired EMS firm AESCO Electronics for an undisclosed amount.

AirBorn said the move will aid its growth, diversification and increase its offerings and capabilities. AESCO is a contract electronics manufacturer and distributor with operations in Akron, OH, and Taunton, MA.

"At a time when U.S. defense budgets are projected to continue declining over the next decade, this acquisition will complement our current business, build new opportunities and significantly advance our vision of providing value added solutions to our customers," Cindy Lewis, said CEO of AirBorn.

AESCO's 300 employees will be retained, as will president Roger Engle. AESCO will be renamed AirBorn Electronics Inc., and headed Engle.

With the acquisition, AirBorn's staffing will increase 30% to 1,400, and its sales will reach $160 million.

AESCO's plants include a 50,000 sq. ft site in Akron, opened in 2007, and a 58,000 sq. ft. building in Taunton, south of Boston, opened in 1990.
