REDMOND, WA – Data I/O announced first-quarter net loss of $500,000, up from a net loss of $1.7 million a year ago.

Net sales for the period ended March 31 were $4.8 million, up 29% year-over-year and 27% sequentially.

The company announced two new significant customers during the period and backlog of $900,000 at quarter's end.

The maker of component memory programming equipment saw strength from the wireless and consumer home electronics sectors. Sales growth was primarily in the Americas, Data I/O added.

Orders for the first quarter of 2013 were $4.8 million, up 13% from first quarter of 2012.

In April, Data I/O took further restructuring actions to reduce costs.
