WESTLAKE, OH -- Nordson's Advanced Technology Systems business unit saw sales fall 2% in its July quarter as demand for dispensing products and fluid management components was offset by lower demand in test and inspection product lines. Sales rose sequentially, boosting operating margins three percentage points to 28%.

Overall company sales rose 6% from last year to $403 million, on flat organic volumes and a 7% increase from acquisitions, partially offset by one point loss from currency translation. Net income was $65 million, down from $67 million a year ago. Operating profit was $93 million, down from $99 million, and operating margin was 23%.

Total sales volume in Adhesive Dispensing Systems grew 13% from a year ago, primarily on acquisitions. Industrial Coating sales increased 10%, also on acquisitions.

The company gave fourth-quarter fiscal 2013 sales guidance of $391 million to $408 million, down 7 to 11% from the fourth quarter a year ago.

Nordson is the parent company of Dage, YesTech, EFD and other leading suppliers to the printed circuit board assembly industry.
