REDMOND WA -- Data I/O's third-quarter net income shot up 342% from a year ago to $646,000 as customers took to its new component programming systems.

For the period ended Sept. 30, the company turned in net sales of $6.2 million, up 16% from a year ago and up 11% sequentially.

The sales figure marked a three-year quarterly high.

The firm cited sales of its lower-end systems in Asia, plus automotive infotainment and industrial “Internet of Things” applications, for the new market growth.

"We were very pleased to report strong profits and revenue growth in Q3, again led by the PSV7000,” said Anthony Ambrose, president and CEO.  “The PSV7000 continues to win in the marketplace, with strong momentum now extending to Asia. During the quarter, we won two global automotive bookings in China in highly competitive situations. We also had repeat customers purchasing their second and third systems, respectively. These are examples of how we are gaining market share and building a strong recurring revenue base."

Bookings in the quarter were $5.4 million, up 25% from the third quarter 2013, and September backlogs were $2 million, up from $1.3 million in 2013.
