SAINT-HUBERT, QUEBEC – In conjunction with the 2015 Québec-France trade mission, Varitron Technologies, EMM Groupe, and Sterela have signed a memorandum for joint development of technologies and products for so-called "smart" cities.
A consortium formed by Sterela and EMM Groupe will operate systems installed for new clients from a new North American headquarters in Québec, near Varitron. The firms expect to create 20 jobs in Québec in the short term and 100 jobs in the medium term.
"The development potential for smart-city technologies and products is enormous," said EMM president Éric Martin. "Examples that spring to mind include the Quartier Confluence in Lyon, the City24/7 project in New York City, and initiatives to provide Wi-Fi network access in downtown Montréal."
Under the agreement, Varitron will manufacture and assemble components; EEM Groupe will manage distribution, sale and installation of systems, and Sterela will handle design and development of smart city technologies, products and applications.
