HONG KONG – ASM Pacific Technology's SMT Solutions unit reported big second-quarter gains, boosted by the DEK acquisition.
For the period, revenue was $187.4 million, up 34.4% year-over-year and 16.4% sequentially.
Overall, the OEM of semiconductor test and electronics assembly process equipment reported second quarter revenue of $485.3 million, up 9.4% year-over-year and 23.1% sequentially. Net profit was $56.5 million, an increase of 5.1% year-over-year and 54% sequentially.
Materials revenue for the quarter was $57.8 million, down 11.5% year-over-year, and up 1.4% sequentially. Backend equipment revenue accounted for $240.1 million, up 0.6% compared to the second quarter of 2014, and up 36.2% sequentially.
For the six-month period ended June 30, ASMPT reported revenue of $879.3 million, up 15% year-over-year. Net profit was $93.3 million, up 26% year-over-year.
SMT Solutions' revenue for the first six months was $348.3 million, up 45% compared to the same period last year. Materials revenue was $114.7 million, down 6.2% year-over-year. Backend equipment revenue was $416.3 million, up 3.5% year-over-year.
New orders for the first six months of 2015 totaled $958.5 million, up 9.5% sequentially, while the firm’s order backlog stood at $441.2 million as of June 30.
“[F]or the SMT Solutions segment, strong yearly improvement was achieved, which was contributed to in part by the acquisition of the DEK printing business,” said Lee Wai Kwong, CEO of ASMPT.
