STAMFORD, CT – The worst may be over for the PC industry, as worldwide PC shipments are on pace to reach 285 million units in 2009, a 2% decline year-over-year, says Gartner Inc.

The revised forecast is more optimistic than the firm’s June prediction, which anticipated a 6% unit decline in 2009.

BEIJING – The value of China's industrial output of electronics increased 4.8% year-over-year in August, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Color TV set volume was up 15.1% for the month compared to the same period in 2008. Production of LCD TVs in particular was up 123.2%, says MIIT, according to published reports.

Laptop computer volume rose 42.3% compared to August last year.

In the first eight months of 2009, the country’s industrial output value increased 8.1% year-over-year.

For the month, China's total industrial output value was up 12.3% compared to the prior year.
