NEENAH, WI -- Business at Plexus in Mexico is so good, the company is considering increasing its capacity there.
"We've had a lot of success in ramping new business in Guadalajara. All continues to remain very strong [there]. So, that would be the one area as we look out over the next couple of years where we could have a facilities expansion," senior vice president and CFO Patrick Jermain said on an Oct. 27 conference call with analysts.
Plexus is seeing customers consolidate their respective supply bases, and the EMS is winning a number of those decisions. "A few of our customers have decided to take their outsourcing spend and consolidate from anywhere from six to seven suppliers down to three," said COO Steve Frisch. "That happened in the last quarter here with a couple of customers, and in all cases we've come [out] on the victorious side of being one of the selected two or three."
The company said its existing facilities elsewhere still have ample room to grow. Repairs have been made to one of its plants in Xiamen, China, which sustained significant damage to its roof and took on considerable water after a typhoon hit the area on Sept. 15.
