LOGANSPORT, IN -- Cal-Comp Electronics will add 70 workers after winning a $50 million contract to build printed circuit board assemblies for video event recorders.
Cal-Comp will start production next month under its new contract with San Diego-based Lytx. Full production will ramp by March 2018.
Lytx said in a press release that it preferred to build the recorders in Logansport than in China due to costs and other factors.
"With this move, we're actually able to reduce our costs by limiting import tariffs and avoiding overseas transport costs, while still paying above market wages to Logansport factory workers," said Jim McDaniel, Lytx's senior director, operations and supply chain.
Cal-Comp currently has about 200 workers at the plant, according to estimates by city officials.
