BINGHAMTON, NY – Universal Instruments Corp. will cut 30 staff from its
Binghamton headquarters and move nearly 20 software engineering jobs
from Bangalore to Binghamton as part of a company-wide restructuring.
The moves are due to lower than expected business volumes, the company
said in a press release today.
The company said it would cut 26 software test and engineering jobs
from Bangalore and add “around 18” in Binghamton.
Newly appointed
president Jeroen Schmits said, “The Bangalore teams have made
contributions to our software portfolio over the past two years and
this restructuring will shorten our communication cycle, improve
operational efficiencies and accelerate the pace of our software
development.”
About 30 staff in manufacturing operations, management and indirect
positions at Binghamton will be laid off.
However, Universal
Instruments said it is hiring sales and service staff worldwide
and adding engineering
positions in Binghamton.
