WASHINGTON – The U.S. International Trade Commission will investigate HP’s claims that rival computer maker Acer is importing into the U.S. certain PCs and digital display devices that infringe HP patents.
HP filed a complaint against Acer Inc. of Taiwan and Acer America Corp. on April 19, alleging violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930. HP requests that the ITC issue a permanent exclusion order and a permanent cease and desist order.

The ITC will investigate Acer’s desktop and notebook computers and stand-alone digital display devices and integrated components of notebook computers based on HP’s claims.

ITC has not yet made any decision on the merits of the case.

Within 45 days after the investigation is launched, the ITC will set a target date for completion.

The complaint concerns HP patent numbers 6,501,721; 6,438,697; 6,609,211; 5,892,933; and 5,596,759.
