VANCOUVER – EMS provider Creation Technologies has acquired Lexington, KY-based SMC Inc. No financial details were disclosed. However, Creation had received $65 million in equity funding in June from Burch Hill Equity Partners.
The purchase of SMC gives Creation, one of the 50 largest EMS companies in the world, a total of nine business units. SMC will be renamed Creation Technologies – Lexington. The company has been in business since 1994 and employs 325 people. Employees will continue to report to GM Greg Howard.
It is not immediately clear what the impact of the acquisition will be on the EMS Alliance, a group of loosely scattered contract assemblers who partner on various projects. SMC is a member of the Alliance.
The company also said it has finalized its acquisition of Taytronics Inc. of Saint Peter, MN. Taytronics will be renamed Creation Technologies – Saint Peter. Taytronics has been providing EMS services to the Minnesota and Wisconsin area since 1990, employing 125 people. Employees in the Saint Peter facility will continue to report to GM John Makela.
SMC is the fifth acquisition Creation has made in the past four years.
