JACKSON, MI – EMS provider Sparton Corp. announced net sales for the fourth quarter were just shy of $51 million, up 0.9% year-over-year. The company reported a net loss of $1.63 million, reversing a $468,000 gain last year.
Fourth-quarter sales were impacted by unexpected delays on several new program startups, Sparton said.
For the year ended June 30, net sales totaled $200.1 million, an increase of 17% from 2006. The company reported an operating loss of $12.2 million, down from $1.9 million in fiscal 2006. The net loss was $7.8 million, down from a profit of $468,000.
Government sales totaled $29.7 million, down 43% year-over-year, primarily because of design or rework issues. Industrial sales decreased slightly primarily because of decreased sales to one significant customer. Sales in the aerospace market improved, as the combined sales of two existing customers increased approximately $8 million during last year. Medical/scientific instrumentation sales were $59.8 million, increasing significantly because of the inclusion of a full year of sales from the company’s newest subsidiary,
Sparton Medical Systems Inc.
Sales to Sparton’s six largest customers accounted for approximately 74% and 77% of net sales in 2007 and 2006, respectively.
The company said 2007 results were disappointing and substantially below original expectations.
