CANJAN, FRANCE – Electronics manufacturer
Flextronics intends to close its Canjan plant in the French region of Aquitaine, the company says.
The move threatens 540 jobs.
"At a works council meeting on Oct. 8, the 540 employees of the ex-Solectron site in Canjan, taken over by Flextronics ten days ago, received the confirmation that the plant would be closed for lack of profitability," Flextronics' union reports on the company's Web site.
Franois Barbier, managing director of Flextronics France, said negotiations would begin with the union to prepare for the plant’s closure. He added that Flextronics plans to close plants in Raleigh, Boston, Montreal and Istanbul.
The workforce at Canjan’s manufacturing unit reportedly once numbered 4,000 employees.
