SYDNEY – EMS provider GPC Electronics announced plans to establish a factory in Shenzhen to manufacture electronics products. Setup in China will be completed by January, and initial volume production is scheduled for March.

The China operation will focus on price-sensitive products.

The factory will be co-located with the facilities of Utilux South China. Like GPC, Utlilix is owned by Australia’s Baryon Group.

GPC Electronics’ existing plants in Sydney and Christchurch, New Zealand, will continue to provide manufacturing services for complex or demand-volatile products, GPC says.

In a press statement, managing director Christopher Janssen said, "Based on discussions with customers, we are confident that we can grow our total business substantially with this range of options."

GPC is one of Australia’s largest EMS companies, with annual sales of more than $100 million and more than 1,100 employees.
