SANTA CLARA, CA -- An opponent of pending ban on lead in solders in Europe has launched a signature drive to request an exemption.

John Burke, the principal behind RoHSUSA.com, a Website dedicated to stopping the RoHS movement, today set up a petition to the European committee responsible for the mandate, requesting an exemption for lead.

The petition states:

"I believe that the lead in solders removal as legislated under the RoHS EU directive is environmentally damaging, and that the exemption applied for by RoHSUSA On 20 May 2006 by John Burke, CEO RoHSUSA Inc, Santa Clara California for an Exemption application under ENV:Directive 2002/95 EC Article 5(1)(b) for lead in solders for all classes of solders in electronics which can be found at http://rohsusa.com/page20.html should be granted by the EU immediately to prevent the environmental damage which this legislation will cause should it be left in place."
