TAIPEI -- Gold Circuit Electronics next year will add 33% to its manufacturing capacity for PCBs for notebook computers according to Commercial Times, a Chinese newspaper.

The PCB maker aims to grow its capacity to 27 million units per year, up from 18 million units in 2006, the paper said. All the additions will be made in China.

Gold plans to double capacity at its plant in Suzhou, and as reported in PCD&M in September will build a second plant in Changshu.

The company is shooting to become the world's top manufacturer of printed circuit boards for notebook computers, DigiTimes reported today. It is currently ranked second.

According to PCD&M consulting editor Dr. Hayao Nakahara, Gold was the 24th largest PCB maker in the world in 2005, with sales of $365 million.
