SAN JOSE – SEMI has issued an alert for producers of semiconductors who sell products in China. As of March 1, semiconductor equipment will be required to comply with China RoHS; specifically, products will require environmental labels and supporting self-declared information in Chinese with regard to six hazardous substances. 

Requirements apply to more than 1,800 “electronic information products” (EIPs) listed in MII’s explanatory note from Mar. 16, 2006.

Products from the EIP list will eventually be included in a catalog that is yet to be published. Cataloged products will be “subject to a) restriction of the same six substances, at the same concentrations, covered in the EU RoHS Directive, and b) associated pre-market certification by authorized labs in China…” according to SEMI.

SEMI notes that EU RoHS and China RoHS have differences and hazards against assuming compliance with China’s guidelines based on European ones.
