TEMPE, AZ -- Amtech Systems reported March quarter net revenues of $32.8 million, basically flat with a year ago but down from $73.6 million in the December quarter.
The sequential decrease was primarily due to the shipment in the fiscal first quarter of all the equipment for Phase II of a large solar turnkey project. The timing of large semiconductor orders and shipments also contributed to the sequential decrease.
The company, which owns BTU, reported solar sales of $12.6 million and semiconductor and SMT sales of $20.6 million.
Net income was $2.8 million for the period, which ended Mar. 31.
At quarter's end, backlog was $63.1 million, $28.1 million in semi/SMT and $35 million in solar.
"Our semiconductor and polishing businesses are continuing to show year-over-year growth with sales of higher-margin products contributing to the sequential increase in our gross margin," said Fokko Pentinga, chief executive.
The company expects fiscal third quarter revenues of $34 million to $37 million.
