MINNEAPOLIS, MN – SMTA selected Raiyo Aspandiar, Ph.D., Intel, for its Founder’s Award, recognizing exceptional contributions to the industry, and support and service to SMTA.

Aspandiar has contributed to the journal, nominating, strategic development and technical committees, as well as the VP of Technical Programs.

Luu Nguyen, Ph.D., Texas Instruments, has been selected for the Member of Technical Distinction Award. Nguyen has been a contributor to the advancement of packaging technologies for more than 25 years. He has coedited two books on packaging, produced over 200 publications and has over 70 patents and invention disclosures. He participated in the International Wafer-Level Packaging Conference as a speaker, chair and member of the technical committee for several years, and currently serves on the Hutchins Grant committee.

The 2018 recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award is Steve Greathouse, Plexus. For over 20 years, he has demonstrated leadership as VP Communications on the board of directors, holding various roles on the Intermountain Chapter leadership team, as a member of the SMTA International technical committee, internet committee, marcom committee, and as an SMTA Ambassador.

Recipients of the Excellence in International Leadership Award are Keith Bryant, Yxlon International, and Soeren Noerlyng, Micronsult.

Bryant has been a speaker, exhibitor, session chair and a technical committee member for several major conferences. He helped the transition of the UK-based SMART Group organization into SMTA Europe.

Noerlyng has served the SMTA as an active member for over 20 years. He has served on the steering committee of the Pan Pacific Symposium and as a session chair for the past 18 years. He presented multiple papers that have solidified the Pan Pacific Symposium as a leading technical conference.

Indium receives the SMTA+ Corporate Partnership Award this year. As a corporate SMTA member for over 30 years, Indium has shown support from supporting chapter and board leadership positions to technical contributions for conferences, committees, and a willingness to share technical knowledge with others in the industry.

Winners will be recognized at the annual meeting during the 2018 SMTAI conference in Rosemont, Illinois.
