ATLANTA – The recent risk management rules for five persistent, bio-accumulative, and toxic (PBT) chemicals are the first of many under the regulatory authority provided the EPA by the Toxic Substances Control Act, according to Assent Compliance.
ECIA hosted a webinar covering updates to the Toxic Substances Control Act Section 6 that impact the electronic components industry. Assent Compliance experts Bruce Jarnot and Madison Adams explained the supply chain risks of the EPA’s actions, which have added new substances to the list, including PIP 3:1.
The EPA uses Section 6 of TSCA to ban the use of existing substances.
“This webinar will get ECIA member companies up to speed on what they need to know about these regulations,” said Don Elario, vice president of industry practices, ECIA. “The TSCA is the US version of REACH, and there is a substantial impact on our industry already, with more substances expected to be added in the future. The industry must identify, document the use of these substances, and find substitutions where needed.”
