TAIPEI – Foxconn today said its goal is to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, according to reports. The iPhone maker aims to reduce carbon emissions 21% by 2025, 42% by 2030, and 63% by 2035.

In a statement, the firm said the 2050 net zero goal was one of the company's seven long-term initiatives, with two main strategies: green and smart production and a circular economy.

By 2030, green power is expected to make up half of Foxconn’s electricity consumption, while water use intensity will decrease 6% by 2025. Internal plastic recycling at the firm’s production sites will reach 60% or higher by 2025.

The company aims to have at least five of its waste landfill sites secure the UL 2799 Gold Level certification by 2025. Also by the same year, all production sites will have waste-water discharge monitoring systems, as well as at least three production sites certified as model air quality monitoring campuses.

Recently, Foxconn said it plans to purchase 70 million kWh of green power by 2030 in Taiwan.
