At this year’s APEX, February 14-16, San Diego, ASM Assembly Systems presents visitors with a full scale Smart #1 Factory that they can walk through and interact with.

The booth will be set up to represent the shop floor of the future, where all the major workflows in an SMT factory will be showcased. Booth visitors will be taken through the factory on an interactive, self-guided tour which will make use of RFID technology and augmented reality loaded onto tablets throughout various stations. The scope of the booth will encompass an offline workflow area featuring receiving, setup preparation, feeder setup and NPI and programming stations that are designed just like in a real factory. Moving further onto the shop floor the SMT production lines will be set up to showcase the latest ASM printing and placement machines, such as the DEK NeoHorizon platform, ASM ProcessExpert as well as SIPLACE SX and SIPLACE TX, flanked by technician’s desks containing the latest tools to help run the lines most efficiently. Even such details as overhead lighting and monitors showing line performance have not been left out. Visitors can experience the ASM SMART #1 factory floor on booth 1001, February 14-16, 2017.

For Apex 2017, ASM has come up with a special concept to showcase the company’s comprehensive set of Smart #1 SMT tools: “When a visitor walks onto the booth, we want them to feel like they stepped into a real factory,” said Mark Ogden, Marketing Manager for the Americas at ASM. “And we want to showcase some of the latest technologies that can help them run their factory more efficiently”.

Tour the factory of the future

The self-guided tour will start with offline workflows at the receiving area, where material is given a unique ID and registered in ASM Material Manager. Visitors will be able to follow the reel through the factory. One of the highlights of the feeder setup area is the new SIPLACE Material Setup Assistant including the active feeder rack. This is a unique and highly effective way to re-use material on the shop floor for future setups, without the need to tear down parts and re-issue to stock. From the offline workflow area the tour continues through ASM SMT production lines that feature the latest DEK NeoHorizon Printers, including a unique new board clamping system called DEK APC (All-purpose clamping). The placement platforms SIPLACE SX and SIPLACE TX will run in two production lines to show both floor-space performance and high flexibility configurations. ASM will also show how the SIPLACE Material Tower system can automatically re-order SMT reels for production lines about to run short of material. The tour is rounded off by a demonstration of ASM ProcessExpert. The self-learning process control system is designed to eliminate defects in the print process, using the ASM ProcessLens solder paste measurement system, combined with a DEK printer and ASM ProcessEngine software.

ASM’s Smart #1 factory will showcase all the latest features and tools that can increase yield and efficiency and reduce downtime in your factory.
