BANGKOK -- Fabrinet has named Dr. Hong Q. Hou executive vice president and chief technical officer, effective immediately.

Dr. Hou brings to Fabrinet extensive technical and executive-level experience in the semiconductor and fiber-optic communication industries. Since last June 2015, he has been chief operating officer of AXT, a manufacturer and compound semiconductor substrates, including gallium arsenide, indium phosphide and germanium substrates. In 1998 he co-founded EMCORE Corp.'s photovoltaic division and led the commercialization of high-efficiency multi-junction solar cell technology for space power applications. From March 2008 to January 2015, he served as EMCORE’s president, CEO and a director. From January 2015 to June 2015 he served as a venture partner at ARCH Venture partners.

Dr. Hou holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of California at San Diego, and he has completed executive management courses at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Early in his career he conducted research at the AT&T Bell Laboratories and the Sandia National Laboratories. He holds eight US patents and has published more than 200 technical articles.
