LONG BEACH, CA – Driven by soaring sales of TFT-LCDs, the global electronic display market is expected to exceed $100 billion this year, up 8% over 2006, according to
iSuppli Corp.
Paul Semenza, iSuppli vice president of display research, said the booming market for TFT-LCD screens is driving growth in the display industry. He predicts the display market, consisting of flat-panel, projection and CRT products, will reach $104.3 billion in revenue this year, up from $96.5 billion last year.
Based on its strength in televisions, notebook PCs, desktop monitors and mobile phones, TFT-LCD production will reach nearly 2.5 billion units in 2011, up from 1.2 billion in 2006. TFT-LCD TV area production in 2007 will exceed the level of all TFT-LCD production in 2005, Semenza noted.
LCDs will account for 65% of all TV displays in 2011, up from 11% in 2005.
Semenza also predicted professional display revenue will reach $14.6 billion in 2011, up from $10 billion in 2007.
Global TFT-LCD revenue surpassed $70 billion in 2006, accounting for 73% of display industry revenue for the year, said Semenza.
