SAN JOSE –  North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.35 billion in orders in March on a three-month average basis, the trade group SEMI said today.

The book-to-bill ratio was 1.04, the highest since July 2004.  A book-to-bill of 1.04 means that $104 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product billed for the month.
Bookings were up almost 5% over revised February levels and up 37% year-over-year.

The three-month average of worldwide billings in March was $1.3 billion, up  1% over February and 2% over March 2005.

Stanley T. Myers, president and CEO of SEMI, said, "The market continues to show strength, as evidenced by incremental growth in bookings and a second sequential month in which the book-to-bill ratio is above parity. This continued bookings growth and recent capital spending announcements reinforce industry optimism for a healthy upturn in 2006."
